A caution about the PANASONIC 24 Pin printers:
With the 24 pin Panasonic printer you will have to set it for the
EPSON 2500 mode and make sure that you have added the extra
memory chip to the printer (the "KX-P43 Buffer" at an extra
cost!). Mr. Jim Sweeney of Laguna Beach, CA. writes:
"The Panasonic 24-pin printers are actually not that expensive to
upgrade for downloadable characters. All that is required is a
commonly available 256K SRAM (32Kx8, probably 200 ns or under). I
bought a chip at a local swap meet for $9. It isn't immediately
obvious how to open the printer up (it snaps together; the front
panel comes off first) but once it's open an empty socket
presents itself."
Purchasing the chip through a dealer can get the price up by
about $60 so it is a good idea to try and 'do it yourself.'
If you try to download to the Panasonic without the extra memory
chip you will get a lot of curious looking junk, formfeeds and
dinging of bells. Since the printer has no place to store the
font data it prints out exactly what it is getting from the font
file.
